Located on the edge of Tobago’s tropical rainforest and with views to the sunset and Caribbean Sea, Castara Retreats offers a collection of 15 luxurious beach houses, perched on the hillside above the beach. Each is built to compliment the natural environment and offers a ‘living in the landscape experience’ to connect with the stunning natural environment that surrounds.
The collection of beach houses in Tobago provide a balance between the services of a hotel and the freedoms of self catering; with spacious living areas, hammocks for lounging, fully equipped kitchens and air conditioned bedrooms, there is everything you need to relax and unwind. Each beach house is unique, with its own Caribbean character and views to the ocean.
The Castara Retreats team are committed to doing their best to ensure your stay is a happy one, and are known for their openness of spirit which always helps guests to quickly unwind and settle into Caribbean life. The friendly and welcoming village of Castara is located just below the retreats and is just a few minutes’ walk away.
To help guest relax into their holiday, our wellness practitioners are available to offer deep tissue massages and private Kundalini yoga classes, all from the comfort of your accommodation, listening to the sound of the sea.
Just below us is the there is a quiet, golden sand beach of Castara. At the other end of the village is Little Bay where you can swim with turtles and angel fish in the coral reef. The village has local services including rum bars, and the fisherman’s co-op where you can buy the fresh catch of the day.
Over 70 species of bird can be spotted from Castara Retreats, including hummingbirds, motmots, and pelicans. We have worked hard to create a sanctury for wildlife in our gardens, and a family of agouti have now made their home in our gardens, along with a great green iguana.
Castara Retreats is one of my favourite places in Tobago. The owners ethos of making the hotel a part of the community is inspirational. They don't serve breakfast to encourage guests to go into the village and buy breakfast there, to buy freshly baked bread and interact with locals. The rooms are more like self contained villas and have everything you could possibly need. They are spacious, tasteful and private, none overlook any others. All of the rooms were hand built which makes this property even more impressive! The service is first rate, everyone is personable, friendly and happy! I can't recommend it enough - fantastic place.
If you are looking for a taste of the "real" Caribbean then this is definitely the place to find it. Castara Retreats is situated on the hillside overlooking the small village of Castara. From our perch in the trees we could watch the boats going out to fish, the ladies baking the bread in the clay oven twice a week and spot when the fish was being sold in the market. We hired a car for two days, which enabled us to see a bit more of Tobago, but nowhere else that we visited had the kind of lively but laid-back ambience we found in Castara.
Enjoy freshly prepared meals at our restaurant Caribbean Kitchen which is open daily for lunch, light bites, and supper, with a fully stocked bar serving tropical cocktails and fine rums. The whole dining space is open-air, giving the sense of tree-house dining, with views to the ocean and sunset.
Our chefs are passionate about Caribbean food our menu showcases the flavours and spices for which Creole food is famous. We invoice you to come and join us and sample some of our home-made food, tantalising desserts or tropical cocktails!
All of our accommodations are self-catering with well-equipped kitchens and spaces for dining with a view. Castara is just a couple of minutes’ away so there are a number of eateries and bars on your doorstep.
