Caribbean eco-resort
Two and one bedroom villas on Tobago
Overlooking the ocean, and nestled amongst the trees of the rainforest, our two and one bedroom villas in Tobago allow you to really experience ‘living in the landscape’ and enjoy the stunning Caribbean village of Castara. Our one bedroom villas offer beautiful treehouse-style accommodations.
We aim to balance the freedoms of self-catering accommodations with the services of a hotel. Our eco hideaway capture the exotic essence of the Caribbean and you’ll find all you need to relax and rejuvenate. Our two and one-bedroom villas in Tobago offer open-air bedrooms, expansive decks and hammocks for lounging.
Our local team will welcome you to Castara Retreats and will do their best to ensure your stay is a happy one. Their openness of spirit is infectious and they’ll soon help you relax into the Tobago ‘go slow’ attitude. The village of Castara is just a couple of minutes’ walk away.
If you need a little extra help relaxing, our wellness practitioners are here to help. Strengthen the body, lift the spirit and relax the mind with a yoga class overlooking the ocean, or enjoy a deep tissue massage, listening to the lapping of the sea.
Castara beach is just a few minute’s walk away, with its golden sand, safe swimming, and fabulous opportunities for snorkelling in the coral reef. Local bars adjoin the beach, perfect for enjoying a cold beer and watch the sun go down. Each day, the fishermen will return with their catch, to be sold at the local fishing coop.
Our gardens are alive with nature and buzzing with life. Watch the pelicans swooping over the sea, and awake to the sound of birdsong. Look out for the little agouti that now lives nearby, spot dolphins out to sea, and admire the stunning hummingbirds. As evening comes, watch the fireflies alight in the trees, and drift off to sleep listening to the sound of the waves.
The views are amazing. Stayed at Birdsong with friends who enjoyed walking down to the beach, buying a 10lb king fish and returning to the apartment to have freshly caught fish for dinner. Imagine falling asleep to the sound of the waves, or waking next morning to the sound of birds chirping or watching the boats bobbing in the water. The view of the bay from your window is to die for and the apartment was exceptionally clean. The only drawback is that you would wish you spent more time there no matter how long you stay.
If you are looking for a taste of the "real" Caribbean then this is definitely the place to find it. Castara Retreats is situated on the hillside overlooking the small village of Castara. From our perch in the trees we could watch the boats going out to fish, the ladies baking the bread in the clay oven twice a week and spot when the fish was being sold in the market. We hired a car for two days, which enabled us to see a bit more of Tobago, but nowhere else that we visited had the kind of lively but laid-back ambience we found in Castara.
But by the moments that take your breath away”
Our restaurant Caribbean Kitchen is a magical sport for a light lunch, a sundowner, or a candle lit supper, serenaded by the sound of the sea. It has fabulous views looking down to Castara Bay, down the coast, and out to the sunset.
Our menu celebrates the spices of the Caribbean, and our chefs prepare fresh food, made to order. Whether you are seeking fresh fish, jerk chicken, quality steak, home made pastas, or exotic desserts, our varied menus offers something for everyone.
All of our accommodations are self-catering with well-equipped kitchens and spaces for dining with a view. Castara is just a couple of minutes’ away so there are a number of eateries and bars on your doorstep.
