Introduction
Castara Retreats is a small eco resort superbly located
overlooking the Bay of Castara on Tobago, with stunning views of the
Caribbean and mountains. The
six quality accommodations are set right above the beach in lush tropical
gardens. Backed by the deep green of the oldest protected rainforest
in the Western Hemisphere and framed by mango trees and
bamboo Castara Retreats is a tropical paradise enabling guests to relax
and live in the landscape around them.
The resort consists of two new all-wood Haiku lodges (Birdsong & Coasthanger)
plus a renovated Fisherman’s shack and three quality apartments,
all of which can be rented for holidays separately or combined
for larger groups. The lodges and apartments are specially designed to
create open, spacious living areas that allow uninterrupted views, cool
sea breezes and the natural sights and sounds of the ocean, rainforest
and village.

The new lodges and apartments are designed in classic Haiku
style to “allow man and nature to live in mutual respect”.
The renovated shack offers similar high standards whilst retaining its
unique Caribbean character. These accommodations sit gently on the land,
are reliant on natural air flows for cooling, and reflect grace, simplicity
and restraint. Haiku means ‘what I feel’ and was coined as
a form of poetry to communicate awe and wonder at the abundance
and harmony of nature. Our philosophy for Castara Retreats is to create
a small eco resort to reflect principles of beauty, balance and respect
and we endeavour to reflect these aspirations in our buildings, the gardens,
in the relationships with the people we work with, and with our clients.
Outside is one and a half acres of gardens with sun terraces,
a sheltered pagoda, barbecues and shady spots where you
can relax under the mango trees and listen to the mot-mots
calling. Purpose-designed deck areas are as perfect for
birders as they are for watching the sting rays in the bay below or
the spectacular Caribbean sunsets.
Our support team are local to Castara and are either neighbours
or living close by in the village. Contact with them offers guests
the perfect opportunity to be introduced to local Caribbean
culture, and many of them have enjoyed good times in their company.
The basic principle is looking after yourselves in well
resourced self-catering accommodation with good local back
up and support that is free from the constraints and protocols
of hotels.
If you are looking for a holiday with informal, relaxing
and quality accommodation in Tobago then Castara Retreats is the holiday
rental for you.
